Innovative eInk e-reader and digital notetaker popular with people who like to hand-write notes. Beautifully designed but with some limitations.
The reMarkable is a poster child for a new breed of digital e-readers. It lets you load ebooks or PDFs and annotate them with a digital stylus. Or you can just take notes on it and synchronise them with your computer. It even has some ability to recognise handwriting.
The reMarkable is one of the most beautifully designed pieces of hardware. It is a pleasure to hold – light and sleek. It has a magnetic back which is the perfect place to attach the stylus while holding it.
Like others in its category, it has a display that does not shine a light into your eyes and the battery lasts a long time.
Compared to others in this category, the reMarkable does not have illumination – it needs to external light.
Like most e-readers in this price-range, its display is 10 inches which is smaller than a page of A4. This makes reading some academic articles a bit more difficult.
Zooming in and moving around the page is not as smooth as on an iPad.
The interaction with text is a bit slower and more limited than on other devices in the space.
It uses a proprietary system for getting content on and off the devices, it is very easy to use but reMarkable charges a subscription for some premium features.
